On this trip we visit some of Nepal’s historic towns and cities. From Kathmandu we take the road to Nuwakot. Riding past verdant hills, picturesque farms and villages we reach Nuwakot after covering a distance of 75 km. Nuwakot is the most central settlement in the entire country. It was from here that King Prithvi Narayan Shah began his campaign for Nepal’s unification around the mid-eighteenth century. From Nuwakot we head to another historic town, Gorkha - the erstwhile capital of the Shah dynasty. The main attraction of this historic town is the Gorkha Durbar (palace) perched atop a fortified hil with Manaslu and Himalchuli rearing in the background. Leaving Gorkha we head to Bandipur, a quaint and picturesque hill-resort. Our last stopover is the medieval kingdom of Bhaktapur. Listed under the UNESCO World heritage site, the Bhaktapur Durbar Square bears a rich legacy of the traditional art and architecture of the Malla era.
