Exploring the towns that manifest glorified history of Nepal and the brave Nepalese- Ancient Cities Ride

Riding on the Royal Enfield Motorbikes to the destinations having huge historic significance “Ancient Cities Ride” is the off the beaten journey along tarmac and mishmash muddy roads of Nepal’s mid-hills.
The first destination we explore is the medieval kingdom of Bhaktapur. Listed under the UNESCO World heritage site, the Bhaktapur Durbar Square bears a rich legacy of the traditional art and architecture of the Malla era.
The journey then exits out of Kathmandu. The first day destination of the ride involves smooth ride along the pitched road to Nuwakot. Nuwakot is the most central settlement in the entire country. It was from Nuwakot from where King Prithvi Narayan Shah began his campaign for Nepal’s unification around the mid-eighteenth century.
From Nuwakot we head to another historic town, Gorkha – the erstwhile capital of the Shah dynasty. The ride at times goes on pitched road and most of the times winds across the muddy trails, which caters immense challenge even to the toughest riders. The main attraction of this historic town is the Gorkha Durbar (palace) perched atop a fortified hill with Manaslu and Himalchuli rearing in the background. Leaving Gorkha we head to Bandipur, a quaint and picturesque hill-resort. The ride to Bandipur is smooth again having tarmac road throughout the journey. The final destination of the tour is Pokhara, which is incorporated in the trip for you to allow enjoy the magnificence of nature.

A DETAILED ITINERARY THAT GEARS YOU UP FOR THE TOUR:

DAY 01: Sightseeing tour of Bhaktapur and drive to Kathmandu 20 km Approx 30 mins ride
DAY 02: Ride from Kathmandu to Nuwakot 75 km Approx 3 hrs ride
DAY 03: Ride from Nuwakot to Gorkha via Dhading 115km Approx 5 hrs ride
DAY 04: Ride from Gorkha to Bandipur 68 km Approx 2 hrs ride
DAY 05: Ride from Bandipur to Pokhara 81km 3 hrs ride

DAY 01: Sightseeing tour of Bhaktapur and drive to Kathmandu 20 km Approx 30 mins ride
The first day of the “Ancient Cities Ride” will incorporate the sightseeing tour of Bhaktapur’s major landmarks. We explore Bhaktapur Durbar Square, which is the least damaged Durbar Square in Kathmandu Valley during the quake 2015. Scientifically built ancient Nyatapol Temple at Bhaktapur stands intact and other monuments around the Durbar Square still boast on rich history and culture of the town. Sighting the lifestyle of natives of the town is another cultural highlight here. After the thorough exploration of Bhaktapur, we hit the road that stretches to Kathmandu. Short ride through the busy traffics will bring us to our hotel in Kathmandu.

DAY 02: Ride from Kathmandu to Nuwakot 75 km Approx 3 hrs ride
After the breakfast, we kick off the journey towards Nuwakot. Riding past verdant hills, picturesque farms and villages we reach Nuwakot after covering a distance of 75 km. On arriving Nuwakot, we check into beautifully architected local resort. After the lunch, we set out to explore Nuwakot Durbar Square. The quake has affected the historic Durbar Square and hence the entry inside the main palace of the Square has been restricted for now. However, the exploration around still gives you the clear picture, why King Prithivi Narayan Shah chose the place as base to conquer Kathmandu Valley. You can also explore around the villages, where you get to see the authentic culture of diverse ethnical tribes including Newars and Tamangs among others.

DAY 03: Ride from Nuwakot to Gorkha via Dhading 115km Approx 5 hrs ride
Sliding down from Durbar Square on the tarmac road that stretches through the jungle, we arrive to Bidur, administrative headquarters of Nuwakot. After riding on pitched road until Trishuli Hospital, we begin the journey along the mishmash serpentine road all the way to Samari.  Beyond Samari, the downhill bumpy ride via Tidu Bhatti and Jor Chautara we arrive to Bharang-Bhurung. Crossing the Sunpension Bridge over a river beyond Bharang Bhurung, we ride uphill to arrive to Tharpu.
Savoring the views of Mt. Manaslu and Ganesh Himal range among others we enjoy the bumpy ride all the way to Dhading Besi via Katunge, Todke, Jaljale and Sakura among others. Soon we leave the main trail and ride along the mishmash off beat trail to Arughat. From Arughat, the trek starting point to Manaslu Circuit an hour long drive will bring us to Gorkha Bazaar. On arriving Gorkha, we check into our hotel and set out to explore Gorkha Durbar and Gorkahnath Temple, which nestles atop a hill overlooking Gorkha Bazaar. Gorkha is the historic landmark of Nepal, being the capital of Shah Kings for a long time. Overnight in Gorkha.

DAY 04: Ride from Gorkha to Bandipur 68 km Approx 2 hrs ride
After the breakfast, take your time to explore Gorkha if you still want to know more about the ancient capital of Nepal. Starting the ride, towards Bandipur, we hit the downhill serpentine road all the way to Abu Khareni. Beyond Abu Khaireni, we will chase Prithivi Highway and in less than an hour we arrive to Dumre. From Dumre taking a deviation over a hill we arrive to Bandipur. Unleash your exhaustion, check into your hotel and set out to explore the village.

DAY 05: Ride from Bandipur to Pokhara 81km 3 hrs ride
In the morning, we savor the beautiful sunrise view from a hilltop at Bandipur. Explore around the village and after the breakfast, we hit the road that goes all the way to Pokhara. It is a short ride today relatively along the less busy road. As we approach closer to Pokhara, the Himalayan peaks dominated by Annapurna and unique Fishtail come into the loop of our eyes. On arriving Pokhara, we straight away ride to our hotel in Lakeside. Enjoy your lunch and stroll around the tourist zone in Pokhara.

DAY 06: Explore Pokhara
Today, we will ride to the major highlights of Pokhara. We begin the motorbike sightseeing tour, with the ride to Mahendra Cave and on the way sight Seti River Gorge. Then we ride to the hilltop Sarangkot, which caters exceedingly beautiful and widespread views of the Himalayas. Sarangkot is also the hub of aerial adventure and hence if you have desires to give a try to Paragliding go ahead at Sarangkot. Riding down the road that penetrates lush vegetation we arrive back to Lakeside. Enjoy the delicious lunch and then resume the exploration of Pokhara. Ride to Davis Fall explore around and then ride back to Lakeside for the overnight stay.

DAY 07: Ride from Pokhara to Kathmandu 200km Approx 6 hrs ride
The final day of the Ancient Cities Ride takes numerous twists and turns on the Prithivi Highway that stretches right above rushing Himalayan Rivers most of the times all the way to Nepalese capital, Kathmandu. Rural culture, river landscapes blended with forested land are the major highlights of last day ride.
