Packing our gear we take a long ride from Kathmandu to the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Lumbini. From Lumbini we speed towards Bardiya, a land peopled by the ‘Tharus’ one of Nepal’s indigenous tribes. Lying on the banks of the Karnali and Babai rivers, Bardiya is a fertile land with a rich eco-system. The main attraction in Bardiya is the Bardiya National Park. The park abounds in a variety of endangered flora and fauna, including the Gangetic dolphin. Leaving Bardiya National Park we hit the highway and ride towards Chisapani. The mammoth steel bridge at Chisapani over the Karnali river links the far-western towns to rest of Nepal. From Chisapani we speed towards Kohalpur and then to Tansen. The ride to the mountains is refreshing and rejuvenating. Pokhara offers a much needed respite from the heat and humidity of the plains. After spending an entire day in the Lake City, we return to Kathmandu.
